The future of reusable coffee cups arrives in Melbourne

When the ABC’s War on Waste aired last year, one segment in particular struck a chord with Melbourne.

It turns out Australian’s send around 2.7 million disposable coffee cups to landfill every day!

We were shocked that our beloved morning brew could be contributing to the death of the planet.

Since that episode aired, the rise and rise of reusable cups has been astronomical. And now, there’s a new player in town.

Reusable, lightweight and shatterproof, the Sttoke Reusable Cup (yes, that’s two t’s) has arrived to shake up the reusable coffee cup scene.

Why you need a Sttoke Reusable Cup

Rack off cardboard. Move over plastic. And take a hike glass. The Sttoke isn’t your ordinary cup.

It’s crafted from stainless steel, lined with GREBLON ceramic and premium exterior coating.

Exclusively launching in Melbourne (“the city that prides itself on coffee”) in May, the Sttoke’s ceramic interior is what sets it apart from the pack.

Sttoke distributor Antony de Fina says it can be difficult to influence change in the coffee industry when there is so much waste in the disposable side of the business.

“We like to think we have a good social conscience and we like to think we’re good social citizens.

“We like to think we’re doing something for the environment but ironically, in a way, the the coffee industry is also a major contributor to waste in the environment.”

The cup’s double wall insulation keeps the coffee warm for hours and your hands free from burning – FINALLY!

And yes, there’s a spill-proof lid for when you’re on the go. Plus, it looks freakin’ cool.

Where can I get one?

Priced at $39, the Sttoke will be available nationally from May via sttoke.com but the best part is the handful of awesome Melbourne cafes giving away free cups of coffee if you purchase a Sttoke cup from them.

“We have selected five cafes that will be promoting the product and when you purchase a Sttoke product you will get three free cups of coffee,” Antony says.
